I’m a little bit of a word nerd. It’s the way I was raised–Dad was all about the correct use of grammar. Use the word “hopefully” incorrectly and watch him wig out. Teaching English as a second language didn’t help me, either. Don’t get me started on less/fewer and uncountable nouns (less sugar, fewer teaspoons of sugar) or other such things. This is a debilitating illness that I’m still working hard to overcome.

But language, as opposed to words? Language as culture? I’m a fan, particularly when a language other than English is used to convey aspects of character and culture, whether it’s a fictional world or a real one.

Over at Only the Best Sci-Fi and Fantasy, I’ve blogged about it. I thank Bryce for the opportunity.

And only one more sleep until Deadroads drops. Gulp.
